Favourite YouTube Channels | Personal Story

Lately, I’ve been watching/listening to YouTube channels more when I’m working on wedding/engagement photographs for my clients. My office is upstairs so I don’t have access to TV. There’s not much to watch on daytime TV anyway (aside for reruns of What Not To Wear). I have access to Netflix on my iPad but I find that sometimes I get too interested in the show that I forget that I need to work. With YouTube, I get to listen and if there’s something interesting, I just can glance at what they’re describing. It makes me more productive in the end.

Here are my top 5 YouTube channels to watch/listen.

Mishka The Talking Husky

For those who know me personally, this is not a big surprise. I love huskies! If I’m feeling blah or a little uninspired, I go to this channel to perk me up. Unless you hate dogs, you’ll find this channel amusing. Aside from that though, it’s more for my dog Mr. Rue because I’m trying to teach him how to howl. Our Boo talks like a husky but Mr. Rue doesn’t. Until I showed him one particular video from Mishka’s channel, “Mishka and Oscar part II). After listening to it, Mr. Rue stood his ground, expanded his chest and howled like he’s never howled before. Even Boo who was relaxing under the dinner table peeked out and looked at Rue confused. So since then, I’ve been showing him videos of Mishka talking so he “talks” more often. Hasn’t worked so far.

Kathleen Lights

What I love about Kathleen is how honest she is about the products she reviews. A lot of YouTubers out there like everything they review, which is not helpful because it make them seem to be the type who just likes everything. Kathleen tells it like it is and even on the one ones she likes, she still comments on how certain things about the product may turnoff some people. That’s why I find her reviews useful. Her makeup tutorials are mostly different versions of the smoky eye. By the time you’ve watched most of her videos, you should be confident enough to pull a smoky eye look on your own. As for tutorials, her makeup style is still wearable (i.e. not Drag Queen-ish) so she’s still a good person to learn from if you’re unsure of how to apply makeup.

LeighannSays

Leighann to me is like the girl I’d like to hangout with. I always get excited when she puts out a new video because I can listen to it while I’m working on my photos and I’d feel like I have a friend beside me talking about her day sort of thing. Her tutorials are beginner friendly, and she uses drugstore cosmetic lines, which is great because not a lot of people can afford or would like to spend $50 on one lipgloss (yes, those things exist). Plus her looks are not over the top so it’s very wearable for work.

Nikkie Tutorials

If Nikkie wasn’t a makeup artist, she’d make a great TV host. She’s got a great personality and she makes me smile listening to her talk. I love how passionate she talks about things she love, and how disgruntled she gets about products that disappointed her. She’s honest, I give her that. Her tutorials are entertaining and although they look complicated, she encourages you to try new things and see how they work out on you.

Makeup Geek

Marlena is one of the original Beauty You Tubers and she’s one of the best. Her instructional videos are informative and easy to understand. And even though she now has her own product line (which is AMAZING!!!), she gives unbiased reviews of other products as well. But seriously, her makeup line are fantastic. I recently ordered a few things from her for the first time and now I’m hooked. They are much, much cheaper than MAC but the quality is better than MAC. That to me is a great deal. Her eyeshadows are great but my favourite thing from her are her blushes. I get so excited just talking about these things here. That’s how I love them! Granted, her more recent makeup tutorials are a bit more colourful than what most people would find work appropriate, but you do pick up techniques that you can apply to your own way of doing makeup.

So there you go! If you have any favourite YouTube Channels I should check out, please include that in the Comments below. I’m always interested in discovering new people to follow!
