Happy New Year! – 2014 Edition

Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season and had a chance to spend time with their families and friends. Our household had been busy, with the addition of a new member of the family, Norman!

For the last year or so, I’ve been bugging my husband, Lance, to get another dog. We’ve been so blessed and spoiled by how Bella was such a great dog that I thought we could handle another rescue and give him a home.  Lance has always been the practical one, so he kept saying no.

However, about 3 weeks ago, I got to change his mind.  I woke up one morning, checked my Facebook feeds, and lo and behold, a photo of a six-month old Husky/Shepard mix named Norman showed up from the Cambridge Humane Society’s Page. He was so cute. And he looked so much like our Bella Boo. Lance’s rational mind did not stand a chance. Norman was ours.

Norman came to the humane society as a stray so we basically had to start from scratch with housebreaking. He had a few accidents here and there but he’s catching on pretty quick! He now knows how to sit and give paw. I even got him running 6km/hr with a 5.0 incline on the treadmill, which he loves. He loves it too much that when I used it one time, he tried to join me. Nearly caused me a black eye.

Bella’s starting to get used to him. He’s got a lot of energy as he’s still a puppy so like a little brother, he can’t help but annoy his sister. My husband won’t probably get the guard dog he was hoping for – Norman loves to cuddle – but I know he loves the little one too.

Here are a few photos from my Instagram feed. If you’re interested in following what I’m up to recently, you can check me out here.

For 2014, I am looking forward to:

  • Getting Norman trained. We’ve enrolled him in Obedience Class starting this month so that should be fun!
  • Attending the Foundation Workshop in three weeks. It’s a photojournalism workshop for wedding photojournalists and I am excited and scared to do it. I’ve been wanting to go since I’ve heard of them 3 years ago but hadn’t had the courage to do so. It will be brutal I know, but I’m doing it to help me grow as a photographer, and will help me do a better job photographing weddings in the future.
  • Completing Focus T25. I found out about T25 when I heard that we’ll be doing these workouts at the Foundation Workshop. It is optional, but I didn’t really want to join in and end up injuring myself in the US. They don’t have free health care. So I figured, I should give myself a head start and do the workouts on my own now to get myself stronger. You only have to suffer for 25 minutes –  the workouts are intense – but for some reason, I enjoy it.  If I ever get a six-pack abs this year, I’d buy myself a coat from Burberry. How’s that for motivation?
  • For my personal project, I’ve started doing Glam Sessions. Right now, I’m only doing it with friends but I see myself doing more of these with clients. As women, we often look after other people first and forget about ourselves. What my friends have found was that giving yourself just three hours to be pampered with a makeover and having photographed with the best version of yourself was an awesome experience. And I’m glad that I get to give that experience to them.
  • I look forward to these every year and it may sound corny but I’m looking forward to shooting my 2014 weddings! The winter is a welcome break but my heart yearns for the excitement and challenge of shooting weddings. I can’t wait!
