Holland Marsh Wedding Photographer | Katelyn and Rick
Speeches at weddings is probably my favourite part of the whole wedding day. That’s when I get to listen to stories about the bride and groom from those that know them the most. At Katelyn and Rick’s wedding at Holland Marsh Wineries last Thanksgiving weekend, Katelyn’s Dad, John, delivered one of the most powerful Father of the Bride speech I’ve ever heard.
John told the story about Katelyn as a newborn. Her birth was complicated and so she had to be admitted in NICU. One time John visited his first born, her nurse told him not to name his baby just yet. Just in case. As John stroked his daughter, her little hand gripped his finger tight. The heart rate monitor above showed her heart rate going up. That’s when he knew that everything was going to be alright. And somehow that someone out there was waiting for her. That’s when he named his daughter, Katelyn.
Years later, Katelyn brought home Rick to introduce to the family. It was then that John remembered about that moment in NICU. He was right all along. Someone had been waiting for her.
I enjoyed every minute of my time photographing Katelyn and Rick’s wedding and I couldn’t be happier for them. My day started at Katelyn’s parents home in Loretto, Ontario where she and her bridesmaids got ready. Katelyn had her friend help her with her makeup. Katelyn wanted to look simple, yet elegant, which tied in with her gorgeous lace, slim a line wedding gown. Katelyn looked stunning on her wedding day.
Back at Holland Marsh Wineries, Rick and three of his closest friends as groomsmen got ready. Holland Marsh has a large suite for the the wedding party. Rick and his groomsmen were in charge with helping to decorate the outdoor ceremony area and the reception hall. They also put the wedding cake together — a simple round cake decorated with lego versions of the bride and groom as a cake topper, surrounded by yellow cake pops. I thought that was very creative!
When the time came for the Reveal, Rick’s groomsmen devised the most interesting blind fold. Black hankie supported by sunglasses. They led Rick from the clubhouse to the grounds where Katelyn waited. They got Rick, who could not wait to take his blindfold off, to stand in front of Katelyn. When he did get to see her, they could not hide how happy they were to see each other!
As I have mentioned before when I featured Katelyn and Rick’s engagement session, both of them are architects. That part of their lives is surely reflected by the details in their wedding. What they did was infuse modern architecture with rustic elements. And a pop of colour! From the simple framed photos from their engagement session lining the aisle, to the lego pieces that guests could sign to build an art piece in place of a traditional guest book, to the handmaid wooden table cards.
