Mint and Gold Wedding | Monica and Brandon
“Everything about the wedding is very Monica,” Mari-Anne, Monica’s mother told me the morning of her daughter’s wedding. Indeed she was right. Looking back at the photos I took, the mint and gold wedding colour palette they chose evoked elegance, innocence, and romance. All of which is very much like Monica.
I first met Monica when I photographed Jenessa’s wedding, her sister, four years ago. Their family was one of the kindest people I’ve had the pleasure of photographing and so when Monica and Brandon chose me as their wedding photographer, I was beyond thrilled. I got to work with them again!
A few of my favourite moments from their wedding:
1. Letters to their parents.
I don’t know exactly what they wrote to their parents but I can safely assume that their parents appreciated them. They all became teary after reading the letters in their hands. My second photographer Melissa photographed Brandon’s coverage with his family and even though I wasn’t there myself, I could feel the joy that Brandon’s parents felt that morning.
2. Monica and Brandon’s Prayer
Monica and Brandon’s Christian faith is an important part of who they are as individuals, and also one of the things that binds them closer together as a couple. Without having to see each other, they held hands and shared a prayer. I thought that was beautiful.
3. Brandon’s Father’s Speech
All the speeches they had at their reception all came from the heart. I enjoyed hearing stories about Monica and Brandon from the people that knew them best. Like how Jenessa enjoyed being the older sister because she made the rules when she and Monica played as children. Or Monica’s parents, how they explained that Brandon broke Monica’s family tradition as this was the first time that one of them married someone who wasn’t Dutch. To make it official, they gifted him an orange shirt, the national colour of Netherlands. But the one that made me teary was Brandon’s father. I can’t remember exactly what he said, but I remember how I felt listening to him, and I remember the tears from Monica and Brandon as they listened.
4. Father-Daughter Dance
Jenessa and her dad, John, had an epic Father-Daughter dance four years ago. Monica’s dance with her father this time around did not disappoint!
I also want to point out that Monica and Brandon’s wedding style was a labour of love. Mari-Anne designed such a beautiful wedding for her daughter. A lot of the details from their mint and gold wedding were handmade by Mari-Anne. The backdrop from the reception itself took her one year to make. The mint napkins Mari-Anne sew herself. Even the table numbers…all made from the heart.
