Alexa and Eric | Modern Guelph Photographer

Alexa thought that her day at the clinic was going to be just a typical work day. Meet patients, asses their needs, and prescribe what she thinks would help them best. Later that afternoon however, when she thought she had a time slot free as she didn’t have an appointment set up, she was called in the PA system to go to one of the exam rooms. That was odd, she thought. Nevertheless, she dropped whatever she was doing and went ahead.

When Alexa opened the door, instead of a patient, she saw Eric instead. She and Eric had been together since University. He clutched a small box in his hands and in it was an engagement ring. He proposed to her that day. That typical work day turned out to be a special one as she had said yes to Eric. Yes to happiness. Yes to a life with a man she loves.

Alexa and Eric first met as students at the University of Guelph several years ago. Since their experiences at the University played a significant role in shaping their first few years together as a couple, and because they wanted to incorporate Fall colours for their engagement photos, I took them to one of my favourite natural locations in the Guelph area — The Arboretum. Even though I’ve done so many sessions at this particular setting already, I never tire of bringing my couples here. The sceneries evolve every season (Winter, Spring, Early Summer). New colours, new blooms. It’s amazing how one place gives me something new to play with every time I come and visit!

Like most couples I’ve worked with, Alexa and Eric are young and modern. They didn’t want photos that make them look stiff or posed. They (just like most people) also mentioned that they usually feel awkward in front of the camera. My job as their photographer was to make them feel at ease so they don’t look stiff. I do pose my couples for their portraits so they know what to do. But as you can see at the photos below, these posed photos comes across as “natural”. That’s what modern photographers are skilled to do.

Here are a few images from Alexa and Eric’s engagement session at the Arboretum in Guelph!
