Richmond Hill Family Documentary Photographer | Masuma and Ali
Masuma is a fellow wedding photographer whom I met at Jerry Ghionis’ workshop in Toronto back in 2012. When you spend five days with other people who share your passion, it’s not surprising for us to remain friends afterwards. We’ve kept in touch through Facebook over the years and when she learned about my personal project involving documenting families, she and her husband, Ali, was kind enough to open up their home to me.
Masuma, like most mothers, take photos of her families all the time. But because she’s the one that takes them, she’s rarely in the photos of herself. A family’s record is not complete without showing every member of the family.
What I love about Masuma and Ali is that they allow their kids to explore their creativity. The kids played dress up with costumes. Their son, was not just a ninja turtle. He was Dr. Ninja Turtle. Their daughter wrote stories on her journal. And as a family, they completed mazes, puzzles, and craft projects by the breakfast nook. And when it comes to just kids playing as kids, their basement served as a mini-playground with their mini bouncy castle and scooters.
I spent a wonderful morning with all of them. Here are a few images from their family documentary session.
