Wedding at THEMUSEUM | Kayla and Nick
At Kayla and Nick’s wedding at THEMUSEUM in Kitchener, Nick’s mother told the story of how she and her husband first met Kayla. Kayla was the first girlfriend Nick ever brought home for them to meet. That’s how they first knew. She was special.
That day finally came. Upon entering their home, Kayla immediately picked up their family cat and befriended him right away. She had a soft spot for animals, and this shared love earned her major brownie points for Nick’s mom. They had dinner, got to know her more. And when Nick and Kayla left their house, his parents stood by the window and watched them until they got into their car.
Once they were gone, Nick’s parents looked at each other. They loved her! They couldn’t be any happier that their son had found such a lovely girl. Kayla was special indeed.
Weddings are essentially predictable but the stories of the people involved are all unique and interesting, at least to me. That is why I love what I do!
Planning A Wedding At THEMUSEUM
The Pros
If I have to describe what a wedding at THEMUSEUM would be like, it would be modern, unique, and fun. Modern because of the high ceilings and interesting architectural details the interior itself has. Unique because there’s nowhere else in KW region that is both a wedding venue and a Science museum.
Take for example Kayla and Nick’s wedding. Their wedding happened to have fallen during their Dinosaurs exhibit. I mean, how do often do you come across wedding photos where the Dinosaurs are not photoshopped?
And lastly, fun! During cocktail hour, your guests have the chance to explore the entire museum and participate in interactive exhibits that they have. No one will ever complain that the cocktail hour was boring. Because if they did, then there’s something wrong with them.
The Possible Cons
There are a few considerations you have to make if you do decide to get married here. THEMUSEUM is open to the public on the weekends and closes at 5pm. Which means, you’ll only have an hour to transform the space in one hour before your guests arrive at 6pm for the cocktail hour. I would highly suggest getting a wedding planner to organize all the vendors involved in flipping the space so that you don’t have to. Janine Dietrich of All Dressed Up Events did a fantastic job at Kayla and Nick’s wedding, I would recommend her and her team in a heartbeat.
Another thing you have to consider is the high ceiling. If you don’t want your photography coverage during your reception then you don’t have to worry about this. But if photos from your reception is important to you, you’ll need a photographer who is comfortable using off-camera flash (OCF). Without being too technical, the use of OCF makes sure your photos are exposed well without blinding your guests with flash mounted on the camera to compensate for the high ceilings.
THEMUSEUM’s dance floor is also fairly large so it needs a really good DJ or band to fill it up. I haven’t come across a local band in KW that I have worked with. But if it’s a DJ you prefer, I n Kitchener-Waterloo, Mark Caravaggio of DJ Charlie Clean is your man for that!
