Grand Bend Summer Vacation 2015 | Personal Story

It’s a cold, windy November Day outside today. It’s a kind of day where you wish you were somewhere else. So what’s best way to forget about the current gloomy weather we’re having? To me, it’s reminiscing about the past summer.

That’s how I cope anyway.

Every summer, my husband and I, along with our two pups, head over to Bonnie Doone Manor in Grand Bend for a few days. Because of our busy schedule, our idea of vacation nowadays is just veg out and do nothing. N-O-T-H-I-N-G.

And that’s pretty much what we did. Me more so than him . I ended up sick with some form of viral infection that left me incapacitated for weeks. Cough syrups made me nauseous and dizzy but I had to gulp those down if I wanted a break from coughing. And because I was nauseous and dizzy, I could not eat without feeling sick. I think I lost 5 pounds over that period. It was our first trip to Grand Bend where I lost weight instead of gaining a few like I would usually do.

I am grateful though to have a husband that looks after me when I’m sick. He kept pushing for me to eat something, even made trips several times a day to DQ because that was the only thing I could tolerate. He made sure I took my medications because Lord knows, I’m pretty stubborn. It was nice to have someone care for you. For sickness and in health, right?

Because I was stuck in our room for the most part of our stay, I took photos mostly of us cuddling in the bed with our dogs together. Aside for my mother though, three of the most important ones in my life were in that room. Even when I wasn’t feeling my best, I was blessed just to be surrounded by them there, away from all other distractions that life hurls at us everyday. It wasn’t a perfect vacation. But those few days of just us together was something I am thankful of.
