Multicultural Backyard Wedding in Toronto | Tamara and Jakub Part II
“This is the part where you’re supposed to cry,” Tamara’s Aunt teased.
Tamara laughed. She sat cross-legged on the floor, arms to her sides as her family covered her wrists with ceremonial bangles. An ornate maroon fabric veiled her head and shoulders, its golden threads shimmered in the light.
It was her Mehendi ceremony at their naturally lit high rise apartment in Toronto. Tamara and Jakub already had their intimate wedding in April, but they wanted their families from England and Prague to celebrate with them at their reception, which was this past June. The first part of their celebration was the Mehendi night followed by the Indian/Czech wedding ceremony at their friend’s backyard the next day. It was a nice way of involving their families and friends and incorporating traditions from both of their cultures.
As a documentary wedding photographer, I draw energy from the people around me so it was such a treat seeing everyone at their wedding laughing and hugging, dancing to Indian beats, and cheering and even shedding tears of joy. The images I captured show a smorgasbord of positive emotions that I couldn’t help but smile along while I edited their photos.
Here are the images from their celebrations.
