A Jedi for a Day | Personal Story

Today was supposed to be a normal day. I woke up, had my morning run, ate breakfast, showered. Once that was all done, I went ahead to my office and started working on my photos. Jasmine Star happens to have an online class today, so I set up my laptop right beside me  as I planned to listen while working. My computer for post-processing is not connected to the internet, so I felt so tech-savy using two computers at once.

Everything was going fine. I just finished the slideshow for one of my clients, and was working my way with another client’s photos. I even munched happily on sweet red grapes I bought from the grocery a couple of days ago. But ten minutes before Jasmine’s online class started, I decided to stretch my back. And lo and behold, a wasp hovered above my head.

Big. Monstrous. Wasp.

I must have had a ninja ancestor or something because I just jumped out the chair and ran into our bedroom in a nanosecond. I only had less than ten minutes until Jasmine’s class start. And more importantly, I had tons more work to do. My husband won’t be home until later in the afternoon. And there’s no way I was going to go back in that room with that wasp still inside. What was I to do?

I’ve never been bitten by a bee before let alone a wasp. I don’t even know if I’m allergic to them or not. Nor would I ever want to know. So I grabbed my white hooded oversized robe and put it on. My Rocky robe, as my husband teased me. I thought of it more like my Jedi suit. So, I put on the hood over my head just in case the wasp decided to sting my eye.

Slowly, I opened the door of my office. I looked around. My monitor went into screen saver mode and was now showing photos from past clients like a slideshow. The notebook where I write all my notes regarding photography lay open on top of the table. Then I heard a buzzing sound. The wasp was at the window, bewildered why it couldn‘t go out. So, as scared as I was, I pulled the curtain close.

At least the wasp was contained in a smaller area, I thought to myself. But I still couldn’t get myself to sit on the chair and do my work, pretending that it was not there. Eventually I took my laptop, my grapes, and my glass of water with me to our spare bedroom. I emailed my husband at work about my whole ordeal. I needed him. And for the past hour and a half hour or so, I’ve been wearing my Jedi suit, watching Jasmine’s class, and waiting for my husband to come home.

He better be home soon.
