Guelph Wedding Photojournalist | Melanie and Shane

The morning of Melanie and Shane’s wedding back in July, I peered outside from my window right after I woke up hoping that last night’s forecast for Guelph on The Weather Network was wrong. Melanie is one of the sweetest person I’ve ever met so when I saw the heavy rain pour instead of a gorgeous sunny day that we had asked for, I couldn’t help but feel dismayed. Rain doesn’t bother me much anymore as a photographer (I’ve learned to make lemonades out of lemons). It just does not create the kind of mood that reflects the words”happy” and “romantic”. Words normally associated on someone’s wedding day. If there’s a couple more deserving of a great weather for their wedding day, it would be Melanie and Shane.

To my surprise however, neither Melanie or Shane was upset about the rain. Shane, his groomsmen, and his family were chill all morning. Shane and his teenage niece even enjoyed bantering at each other. And Melanie, she was a ray of sunshine when I got to her family’s home to photograph her getting ready. She just looked so pretty and elegant…and just happy. And that energy was shared by her family and bridesmaids as well.

Melanie’s parents are just adorable as well. Her father joked that he didn’t disappoint when he cried on cue upon seeing Melanie in her dress. Her parents were actually just about to celebrate their anniversary which was the following day. They also got married at Cutten Fields where Melanie and Shane was going to tie the knot later that day.

But I think what touched me the most was when Shane’s mom placed a small framed photograph of his dad on one of the chairs in the front row at their wedding ceremony. I learned a month before the wedding that Shane’s Dad passed away a few months leading up to the wedding. From the stories I heard about Shane and Melanie during the speeches that mentioned. Shane’s Dad, they painted a picture of a man that was loved and will clearly be missed. I can only imagine how difficult this all must have been for his family.

Although the loss was still recent, they did have something to celebrate. Before they got married, Melanie and Shane had been together for about eleven years. They’ve been trough a lot together. That’s longer than some marriages nowadays and that just attests to how strong they are together as a couple. They were so lucky to have met their parter for life early in their lives, I wish them all the best.

Here are few images from their wedding.
