Winter Woodland Engagement Session | Kayla and Nick

Whenever my clients tell me that they have pets, I always ask if they want them included in their engagement session. Pet owners consider their pets family so it only makes sense to bring them along as well. Plus, pets generally calm people down. If I want my clients to feel comfortable during their shoot, I’ve found that having them play with their pets put them to ease.

At our initial meeting, Kayla and Nick mentioned that they had cats. So for their engagement session, we planned on starting at their home. If you love cute, cuddly cats, this post is for you :)

After I got Kayla and Nick warmed up in front of the camera, we headed over Kitchener’s hidden gem, Huron Natural Area for some outdoor shots. We originally had the theme Winter Woodland Engagement Session in mind. When we planned the shoot for December, we thought that there’d be some snow on the ground since we’ve already had snowstorms in November. A few days before their session, the GTA got hit with a major snowfall of about 10 cm. Ironically, that same system seemed to have skipped over Kitchener-Waterloo region. They had none. So the winter woodland theme we had planned for, with powdery snow covered ground didn’t exactly work out.

Luckily, Huron Natural Area has a huge pond that had frozen at the time of our shoot. When shot in a particular angle, the pond looked more like a lake and the pine trees that lined its edges provided some lush green. It was quite a pretty site to be seen.

Even though it was cold and damp, Kayla and Nick were such good sports. They both have their own ways of making the other laugh which I find so adorable. And when they look at each other in the eyes, you know that what they have is real.
