A Culinary Discovery | Personal Story
Three things I enjoy in life are books, photos, and food. You put them all together and what do you get? A cookbook! I am a complete sucker for big cookbooks. Take a peek at my cupboard and you’ll find The Joy of Cooking, The Silver Spoon, and Vefa’s Kitchen stacked up on top of each other. I just enjoy trying out new recipes. To me, it’s about discovering new things. There are lots of flavours to explore that I can’t resist not finding it out.
My husband Lance, not too much. He’s not a picky eater per se. He’ll try out new stuff if I ask him to. But once he finds a dish he really likes at a restaurant, he won’t order anything else. That’s just how he is. But I still love him anyway :)
Since it was Friday and we’re both free, I thought it would be nice to cook something interesting. I bought 1080 Recipes about a couple of years ago and though I have meant to try out their recipes ever since I got it, I just never had the chance to.
1080 Recipes is a collection of Spanish cuisines translated into English. I chose to cook Chicken with Leeks and Cream. It sounded delicious enough in paper!
One tip I got from watching Rachel Ray is to submerge sliced leeks in water to remove dirt trapped in between the leaves. The leeks float up and dirt settle down in the bottom.
The final product! I know I have to work more on presentation…but this dish taste so much better than how I presented it here. It’s delish!

The images are making me hungry and my entire family is picky eaters (except for me) – so I understand! How did it turn out?

Lovely work. I agree, you got both your passions into one session. Plus you rocked out the images. If you shots weren't weren't so amazing I'd be asking if you were thinking of doing the chef thing. Yum!

I can relate with your husband. I find one thing I like at every restaurant and order the same thing every time. But I LOVE cooking so much. My husband will eat anything. The photo with the leeks sautéing made my mouth water a little bit. I may try this!
