Kasia and James: Engagement Session
Eight years ago, in a Pizza Hut somewhere in Kitchener, amidst serving customers, answering phone calls for delivery orders and rolling dough, Kasia met James.
It was not necessarily love at first sight.
They could not stand each other. Hated working together. Not the perfect start to a love story now, does it?
Well, it all changed when one of their co-workers, Michelle, started spreading a few little lies here and there. Michelle told Kasia that James liked her, while James was told by Michelle that Kasia liked him. These rumours somehow made Kasia and James see each other in a different light. James asked Kasia out one day and the rest was history.
James proposed to Kasia on September 28, 2008 on the Trans-Canada Highway on their way back to Vancouver from Chilliwack after attending my wedding. James pulled over the highway and told Kasia that she should take pictures of the scenery. Kasia was confused at the time. Aside from the fact that James just pulled over all of a sudden on a major highway, she had already taken photos of more scenic locations beforehand. She did not see what was special in that particular spot. However, she got out of the SUV anyway, took out her camera and started shooting. A few moments later, a blurry, sparkly object blocked her view. Kasia put the camera away and saw James holding out her ring. He asked her if she would marry him, and the answer was “yes”.
I am very lucky to call Kasia and James as friends. Aside from being fun to be around with, they are probably two of the most generous people I know. I knew from the minute I saw them together that they were meant for each other. I cannot even imagine one without the other.
For their engagement shoot, we chose three locations — a blue garage, a nature trail, and a junkyard. Kasia wore her black dress with tights and purple trench coat paired with her purple wedge shoes that her grandmother from Poland sent her. She looked put together as always. James matched her as well, with his black dress shirt, navy blazer and blue jeans.
Being my best friend and business partner, Kasia has an uncanny ability to read my mind. It was actually great not having to direct them as she already knew what I wanted them to do so she directed James instead. I thought that was really cool.
Here’s a few of their photos from their session:
These two images make me think of Johnny Cash and June Carter for some reason. . . I think it’s the guitar. And because James was playing Johnny Cash’s song at one point on this trail.
Bonnie and Clyde, perhaps?
Finally, I can’t resist posting this one. Kasia looks fierce in her pose, while James, he’s basically ‘smizing’ (aka smiling with your eyes) and at the camera! I love this one :)
