The biggest draw of photography for me is the privilege to observe the human condition first hand. That’s how I fell in love with weddings. My clients and their relationships with their families and friends make each wedding interesting. It is those relationships that I hope to portray each time I click my shutter.

After my experience with The Foundation Workshop a couple of years ago, I became interested in developing my own personal documentary projects. Since familial relationships at weddings is my favourite subject to photograph, I thought it makes sense for me to explore A Day In The Life Sessions with families.

As most of my weekends are devoted for weddings, the only times I get to pursue my project is during off-season. I am very grateful for my friend Matt and his wife Natalie who welcomed me in their home to spend a day with their newborn son, Perry.

Matt is also a photographer himself and he has taken tons of photographs of his sons since day one. I think that is why Perry is one of the most camera aware baby I’ve ever met. He gave me all smiles each time he realized I was pointing my camera at him. I don’t know about you but there’s nothing more uplifting than the sound of a baby chuckling.

I’ve always known that being a parent is hard but shooting Day In The Life Sessions just reaffirms that. I saw how much work it was to keep a baby calm. How much time it took to put them to sleep. How you need to coordinate your schedule to match theirs. It is not easy. But at the end of the day, all of that doesn’t matter. Their love for their children trumps everything else.

I can’t thank Natalie and Matt enough for allowing me capture their lives through my lens. Their Day In The Life session happened to be on Halloween, that’s why Perry was in a monkey suit in some of the photographs.
